My teaching style is centered around working with an individual wherever they happen to be at. In college, I assisted other students in Drury's writing lab. And, as an editor and journalist, I have extensive skills in dealing with helping reporters to communicate clearly and succinctly.
I graduated magna cum laude from Drury University, a private liberal arts college, in 1987, with a major in fine arts (photography and graphic design emphasis) and minor in communications (four years experience on the college newspaper). I also have 21 years of experience as an editor at weekly and daily newspapers in Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Working primarily at smaller newspapers, I have an extremely varied background of experiences - from writing "hard" news and features to on-the-job training for new reporters just out of college or new to the profession.

I grew up with both partents in the public education system, I was a student-teacher in H.S. and I earned a bachelor degree in Parks, Recreation, Natural Resource Management with a minor in Art Education. After graduation I taught Art and pre-school classes for the Springfield, MO Parks Dept. I was a librarian at the Springfield Art Museum. I worked for the Dept. of Social Services, Div. of Youth Services for 14 years and assisted the teachers with the education ciriculum. I taught Outdoor Stress Challenge Programs to the youth in a rehabilitation program.

I enjoy teaching and assisting students to obtain a goal. I enjoy the change in attitude and increase in self confidence when "it finally clicks" and students realize they understand the subject matter at hand and CAN do it. I think everyone is capable of learning anything, the key is to figure out what style works for them. I am a Special Education teacher by education and by choice. My teaching style is one that can be changed at any time to answer the learning style of a student. I am a hands-on, multiple teaching style person because I know that students do not learn by using just one learning style. If I said that I just had one teaching style, then I would only be teaching to one type of student and that is detrimental to all students.
