I believe every child can learn anything, it is just a matter of understanding how each child's brain functions. Some students learn by example and repetition, while some need hands-on activities in order to process the main concept and remember it. I do believe that every student needs plenty of practice in order to maintain the knowledge of each lesson. I believe this practice should include guided practice as well as independent practice so that I can understand each student's thought process. I prefer tutoring rather than a classroom setting so that I can better accommodate each student's needs. I always try and determine what works best for the student in order for them to learn the subject material like illustrations, reading the textbook, or using a computer-based program. I also like to use example problems to reinstate the concept ideas of the materials. Aspects of teaching that appeal to me the most are the fast-paced learning setting which offers the benefits of teacher and student time, the continuity of care, and the pleasure of seeing students learn over time. Throughout high school and college, I performed at an academic level well above average. As a result, I often found myself helping my fellow students. As part of my graduate assistantship at Missouri State, I work in the math tutoring lab several hours a week, tutoring (primarily) algebra and calculus students. I also teach MTH 102, which is approximately equivalent to high school Algebra II. I also have a great deal of experience in history, literature, English, and the natural sciences and have helped other students in these fields in the past.
