While working on my MS at the University of Tennessee, I taught lecture and outdoor laboratory sessions for the Ornithology course, which included about 30 students. As the coordinator of the Conservation Science Internship Program at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, I am responsible for much of the training of 5-11 interns at one time. I belief that conceptual understanding is the foundation of learning. Teaching kids to solve a specific problem that they can't do doesn't accomplish much, in my opinion.
