I enjoy tutoring because I find it rewarding to build relationships with students and observe their progress. Once a student realizes that I genuinely care about her success, she is more likely to work hard and obey my instructions. Teaching styles are as diverse as students in the classroom. Given that fact, differentiated instruction is necessary because no two students learn alike. Building background, accessing prior knowledge, and learning student's frames of reference are important steps for a teacher to take in order to determine how a student learns. I strive to develop relationships with my students to better serve their learning needs. Knowing their cultural and social realities gives meaning and relevance to their learning. My high school education was comprised of "alternative" education and a summer semester at Exeter Academy in New Hampshire.
