My personal style varies on the pupil. These may vary from simply being frustrated with the curriculum to a myriad of influences. My teaching style encourages relating reading and writing to what they are already reading, writing and listening to. If students can understand language and grammar in their own context and how it is useful then it will be better and easier to incorporate into their own writing and reading and therefore more natural. For example, while teaching ballads I introduced a Coldplay and Bob Dylan songs to students to better understand Lord Randall and other ballads of the time.
