My comments on tutoring Painting : Currently a middle school art teacher

I'm an experienced graphic artist. I graduated from OSU in 2006 and still design for several clients. I was the only in-house graphic designer for America's Incredible Pizza Company. The operations office was located here in Tulsa; it closed in 2010 but continued to work for the company from home. I also held a position with Bullseye Database Marketing which designs primarily bank letters and stationary. The work from both companies was widely contrasted, so I feel that I have a wide range of experience in the design world. Very familiar with the printing process and how that system works after you've designed a piece. Very helpful to know before you start designing a piece so that you can keep production in mind. It's beneficial when considering cost and how to send files to the large print/press companies for mass distribution. I am currently freelancing and my latest project was a 200 ... read more

More About This Tutor...

An instructor, one must create a safe environment that is interactive and collaborative and that promotes problem-solving and critical thinking skills. By giving students a voice in class, not only do the students benefit from peer-peer learning by enriching the course material with personal experiences and knowledge, but they also take responsibility for their own learning and, therefore, enhance the integration of their new knowledge into practice. To create a safe learning environment, I encourage students to ask questions and give their views on the material we are covering. I create assignments that improve students’ problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a classroom teacher for 9 years. All 10 of my years out of school have been in the education field. My first year out of college I taught at an unaccredited private school, and then at an accredited day care center. The next 7 years were at a public school. One year I was recruiting for scholarships at the college level. I have always opened my door to students without expectations of payment for several years. I feel that it is my duty to make sure they understand their assignments.
My passion is working with children of all ages. I believe all children can learn and it depends on how you approach their learning. If a child is not learning, I need to re-evaluate how I go about teaching. I am very patient and have an outgoing personality. I believe that you must teach to the whole child before true learning can happen.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a graduate of a private small private college with a high standard of academic excellence. I balanced my school work with playing college volleyball, therefore I know what it takes to be dedicated and work hard. I hold a bachelor's degree in History as well as teaching certification in the Montessori Method for ages 3-6 yrs. I have certification in Southern Appalachian Ecology earned from the Tremont Institute of the Great Smokey Mountians. I have been a primary teacher at a Montessori school for the last 5 years, as well as tutoring in reading and math for children in kindergarten and first grade.
I believe the best way to help a child learn is to, "follow the child". I try to let the child find his own answers and simply be a cataylst between the materials and the child. It is in this way the child gains confidence and independence through the learning process. ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I began as an education major at the University of Central Oklahoma before switching to Oklahoma Baptist University. I have worked with children in a professional setting since 2004 in church, non profit, daycare, early childhood, and preschool settings. I value education and find it to be a crucial and vital part of child development. I have tutored autistic students, as well as taught preschool for 14 months both at Saint Dunstans Preschool and Holland Hall College Preparatory School.
I believe teaching is about learning instead of the outcome. I practice "learning by doing" where they create their own style and way of accomplishing the task based on age appropriate methods and ways that work for them. It is not about the final product, but rather how they get to the proposed finish. Kids will go as far as you push them and typically exceed ones expectations.
