Depending on the students learning style and the subject, my teaching style will differ. If the student is a visual learner than I will create PowerPoints and other visual aids to help them. If the student is kinesthetic than I may create a project for them to do (if the parent is ok with it), or I may have them interact more during the tutoring than with the visual learner. Lastly, if the student is an auditory learner than I will create/find videos for them to understand the material or create a song. Whatever way your child learns the best I will tailor an experience just for them.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Vocabulary : Vocabulary is the key to understanding what you read. For English Language Learners, I use a lot of Visuals. If they understand the lexicon of the word, the antonym, synonym prefixes, suffixes and the parts of speech, the student will have an excellent understanding of the world. I believe in allowing kids to make words by using letter cards and then using the words they make into a sentence. I think Vocabulary games are very fun for the students.

I spend a lot of time teaching small group interventions which focuses on the Reading Sufficiency criteria that is mandated by the Oklahoma State Department of Education. I have also worked with many Gifted and Talented students preparing them for Writing Contests. My passion is encouraging students to look forward to the Core Curriculum Test. In the past I have been given the opportunity to teach Art and Writing and mnay of my students have produced Writing Portfolios of which they are extremely proud!

Elementary Vocabulary is one of my top subjects!

I have worked at Mingo Valley Christian School since 2010 in a variety of capacities: substitute teacher, teacher's aide, AIM tutor. I work mainly with lower elementary students on phonics and beginning reading, but I also have experience in teaching upper elementary reading and math. I am also certified to teach English as a foreign language and have completed practicums in ESL classrooms at Jenks East Elementary (Fall 2010), Tulsa Community College (Fall 2010), & La Casa de Panchita (Fall 2008). I studied Spanish at a private university in Lima, Peru, during my junior year of college and am comfortable teaching Spanish vocabulary and grammar at the intermediate level.
