While in high school, I discovered my love for math and began tutoring classmates in that area. My interest in writing developed during my educational career at The University of Tulsa, where I had courses in advanced exposition and argumentation and writing for the professions along with literature classes in the areas of Russian and British Literature of the 18th Century, Eastern Literature, and Greek Literature. I have worked with children since I was in Jr. High School, teaching Sunday School at my church. I have always been very patient with children and have allotted them time to comprehend a topic before going on to the next. I believe it is important to go about teaching children according to their individual learning abilities and interests. My experience working in the Early Childhood Education Department at the University of Oklahoma as a graduate assistant has also influenced my beliefs about teaching. Every student has a unique combination of learning styles, but he or she also has a predominant one such as visual learner, kinesthetic learner, etc. I try to figure out which style or styles the student responds to and use those styles to get through to the student. I also have the student explain the problem to me. Usually there is only one area where the student has gone astray in his or her thinking.
