Creative Writing is one of my top subjects!

My teaching style is varied, depending on the learning style of the student. In class with mixed learners I use an eclectic approach. I use topics that the students are interested in.
I have more than 10 years teaching experience. During this time I have taught at universities, public and private schools. The subject taught most often was English language and all its components i.e. reading, writing etc. I have also had four (4) English language workbooks published by Pearson-Longman, one of which has been adopted in some private schools. As principal of Hampton International School I developed curriculum including the creative writing syllabus. As I have taught in many places, all over the world, I have no doubt that I will be able to support you as I am able to create my own materials that will support learning or use material that is provided. My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : I have taught creative writing in the classroom for 5 years.

I am a teacher with 7 years of classroom experience. My degree is in English, but I have taught in many other areas, including math, history, logic, and rhetoric. I have also tutored many students in grammar and writing, as well as Algebra I and II. I have been responsible for teaching books to students from American Literature (Hawthorne and Hemingway), European Literature (Dickens and Shakespeare), and World Literature (Gilgamesh and Homer).
I prefer the Socratic method of asking/answering questions and discussion, but I am more than capable of diverting to a more lecture style of teaching if that is what works with the student. I tailor my teaching style to the strengths of the student.

Creative Writing is one of my top subjects!

I consider my style to be optional. I gauge my style on the type of attention the student needs.

Phonics and help for dyslexic students

While homeschooling my boys, I invented new ways to teach them to read. These methods turned out to be helpful to many students. I've taught children how to read for about 5 years. I wrote a series of books to give teachers methods to teach phonics in creative ways, published through Creative Teaching Press. I've published mountains of curriculum. Formerly, I was the editor for the weekly education section for the "Denver Post." Now I am especially interested in helping children who have reading problems, particularly those who have or may have dyslexia.
Hands-on, creative, active, using senses to keep children involved, especially those with ADHD. Trained in the Orton-Gillingham method to use explicit, sequential, systematic, and comprehensive phonics, especially for children or adults with dyslexia.

My comments on tutoring Creative Writing : I have a degree in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama

I guide the student to his or her understanding of the material. I do not feed information. I ask that the student come to their own conclusions.
I have a BA in English and Creative Writing. I received a MA in English Literature in 2005. I began my teaching career at Calhoun teaching English Composition 101 and 102. I have since been teaching high school (for 8 years) and currently am teaching honors 10 and AP Senior Lit. and Comp. at a local high school. English is my life! ha! I am extremely well read and very well versed. I know what it takes to score well on standardized tests and how to write "A" papers.

A Little Bit About Me...

As both a teacher and a counselor I have worked to develop a teaching style that is student focused. In order to do that I want to inspire and challenge the student to reveal their abilities and interests and track them as they develop. The student and I will set specific goal areas with attainable steps, so that we can both check the progress. With a thorough knowledge of the material along with good organization, the process of learning can be creative and lively for both the student and the teacher.
After high school I achieved a BS from George Peabody College for teacher, however did not teach for money until many years later after I received my MS. My work in clinical psychology has been mostly with children, the severely mentally ill, and abuse cases. My last full time position was teaching high school material in a one room school to students who were wards of th ... read more

My experience ranges a great deal and encompasses a lot of subject matter from K-12 Math to English and Literature. My wide range of expertise is indicative of my schooling where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications that exposed me to the Liberal Arts world; while my minor in Industrial and Systems Engineering and Master of Science degree in Information Technology exposed me to more technical subject matter (i.e. various levels of Math). I have had the privilege of tutoring approximately 5 clients in the span of roughly 2 years and each one under my tutelage boasted significant performance improvement in subject areas they found initially challenging.
I love teaching and interacting with willing minds. Teaching "runs in the blood", where my mother is an excellent teacher in the Huntsville City School District, my father was a former teacher and all of my aunts and ... read more

As both salutitorian of my high school graduating class, and a Chancellor Scholar at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, I have the drive, determination, and know how to succeed on any academic playing field and compete with the best of the best. I have a BS in Elementary Education with an emphasis in music. After ten years of teaching experience, I consider myself an excellent candidate to tutor in many subjects, including but not limited to Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Music (both vocal and instrumental), and Music Theory.
Being that I have spent the majority of my teaching career in a high needs environment, I can honestly say that I teach to the student. However a child best learns is the way in which I teach a subject. No child learns exactly the same, and as a highly qualified educator, it's my responsibility to discover the mode in which a student best learns.

I'm currently working for Huntsville City Schools Extended Day Program. I've been working there for 3 years. In those 3 years, I also worked in the work study program, working at the Richard Showers Center's after school program. While, at the Showers Center, I was placed with an ADHD and Dyslexic student. My duties included, helping him find different ways to learn the material and I went through a series of repetitional exercises. I continued to tutor him for 1 year.

A Little Bit About Me...

I began to realize my love and aptitude for tutoring as a volunteer Japanese instructor for the Daikin home-stay program in 2006. The next two years I volunteered my time with Rosie's International Services tutoring Spanish. At the beginning of the Spring 2008 semester, the Head of the Foreign Language Department, Dr. Maier, submitted my name to a tutoring department at UAH, where I worked tutoring Spanish, Japanese, Latin, Chinese, and English as a Second Language until I graduated in Spring 2010. Although I do not have an education degree nor teaching certificate, I was hired as a part-time Spanish teacher at Austin High School 2010-2011, where I started an informal Japanese Culture Club.
