My comments on tutoring Science : I am a total science nerd, a graduate with a bachelor's degree in biological sciences - and who better to impart the glories of science onto a student's mind? It's an incredibly intriguing subject that can be a lot easier to understand than many people realize. Feel free to contact me if you would like help improving your comprehension of any science topic!

For tutoring, I prefer face-to-face lessons, because it makes it easier for me to gauge how well the student is understanding the material. I try to explain concepts in a variety of ways to find out how the student learns best, whether through repetition, example, metaphor, application... whatever works! I have tutored kids with all kinds of needs and a few with pretty short attention spans :) For piano lessons, I would use the Alfred library of teaching materials, as that is how I was taught and it works wonders on new learners! In addition to reading music, I would focus on performance techniques and theory as well.
Hello everyone! I am available for tutoring as well as teaching music lessons. I have experience tutoring students who may need more time to process information than is provided in a classroom setting in all subjects, and I'm great when it comes to communicatin ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style reflects the way I learn best. I find that hands on learning is by far the most effective, a fun educational memory is much easier to recall than a set of hard facts.
I am a recent graduate from SUNY ESF with a passion for education. I am proficient in many fields of science, ranging from earth science to limnology. Although I've never professionally tutored, I have experience teaching middle school groups about aquatic entomology and forest ecology at Clark's Reservation. I have taken several classes where I learned to design lesson plans and how to properly communicate with varying age groups.

More About This Tutor...

I have helped tutor since I was a freshman in high school. I began working with kindergarteners through third grade students on reading and writing. Throughout my sophomore year of high school I tutored middle school math students (ages 11-14) and helped to train our "Mathalon" team. My junior and senior years of high school I mostly helped biology students prepare for the regents exams, as well as continued in the after school reading program for kindergarteners and preschoolers. In college I began tutoring many students for the spanish regents exam and continued helping others prepare for their biology and chemistry regents exams. Although I have not had the opportunity to officially tutor many college students, I was a Teaching Assistant for BIOL101 and CHEM101 (freshman level chemistry and biology) for SUNY Cortland.

My extensive experience in different subjects and venues has engendered in me an adaptive teaching style. I am very comfortable teaching in both a classroom setting as well as one-to-one. I truly believe that the key to learning is proper motivation. Rather than giving answers to a student who is having difficulties, I prefer to guide students, prodding them along in the right direction with directed prompts. My goal is to have a student retain what he or she has learned from going over a particular subject rather than simply memorize and immediately discard.
I have worked the past two semesters as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell University. In the fall, I taught a weekly section of 14 students in Introductory Nutrition and this past semester, I instructed a lab group of 10 students in Human Anatomy and Physiology. My goals for my students encompass more than simply answering questions and completing homework assignments. Although these activities are integral to teaching, what I really want to impart is the ability to solve problems, leaving my students with a valuable tool for excelling in their educational careers. Another one of my goals is to make the sciences fun and exciting. I think the most successful students are those who possess an active interest in what they are studying. If they truly find science interesting, then they will seek answers to their own questions, and learn at a rapid pace.
My educational experiences center heavily on the sciences. I have a B.A. in chemistry and biology, as well as an M.S. in organic chemistry. These degrees have given me a strong foundation in basic chemical and biological knowledge, as well as more advanced knowledge in both of these fields. Mor ... read more

I have been a teacher for the past 20 years and have learned the best quality is compassion. As part of that compassion, a teacher must listen to each student to determine need and develop an approach of instruction according to the need. Typically I like to give a multiple intelligence survey that helps me figure out how each student thinks. This will help me to use the best teaching techniques to allow the student the greatest chance of success. I have strong High School Math knowledge and have taught Math/Science for the past seven years. As a resource room instructor I had to be well versed in all sciences and all levels of math, except calculus, in order to assist as many students in need as possible.
I enjoy teaching/tutoring high school students and adults in need of support to prepare for college. I am an excellent educator and am able to adopt my teaching style based on th ... read more
