A Little Bit About Me...

I have been working with children since I graduated from high school. I was a teachers assistant for the hearing impaired for 4 years and did some tutoring on the side for both deaf and hearing children. I attended college and received my bachelors degree in Psychology and then got a job as a teacher on an emergency credential and realized I loved teaching. When I graduated from college, I taught bilingual elementary kindergarten for 2 years on an emergency credential. I moved to Missouri in 1995 and since 1997 I have been a daycare director till recently. I enjoy seeing the pride and joy in each child when they learn something new. I hold a Bachelor and a Master of Science degree in Science Education. I was certified in the State of Louisiana to teach Chemistry, Biology, General Science, and Computer Literacy. I taught high school Chemistry, Physics, Computer Literacy, and Study Skills. I have taught Biology Lab courses and Computer Information Systems courses at the college level, and have substantial experience teaching algebra to students preparing for the GED exam.
The most important element of teaching is to realize one is teaching a person. In a tutoring situation, it is especially important to discover exactly how to present material to the student. As a teacher, I seek to understand the student and then present the material using terms and examples the student can understand. As a recent graduate at the University of Missouri with degrees in International Studies and Spanish, I have obtained the indispensable ability to speak Spanish fluently. I have found that students can make rapid progress when they have an opportunity to fill in the gaps of their skills and knowledge.
