I grew up in Jamaica and my formal years of education were under the british system. This sytem was very student friendly and much emphasis was placed on learning and not testing. I have earned a Bachelors degree double major in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University of the West Indies Jamaica. A masters degree in Science Education 5-12 from Western Governors University Utah. I also completed my teacher education requirements at University of North Carolina Pembroke. I am a huge supporter of the idea that anyone can learn anything that they desire. With that being said, it seems that there should be no problem with students learning mathematics; but there is. Many children have no desire to learn mathematics because they see no relevance for it in their daily lives. With the many different learning styles of students I try to be dynamic in my teaching, to adapt to a particular students’ needs. In tutoring mathematics, I present the material at hand and background concepts in a variety of ways (depending on the situation- analytically, graphically, as a real-world application, etc) and then move onto examples.
