A Little Bit About Me...

I have worked in the business world all of my career and now wish to use my lifelong interest in education, combined with my developed training skills and native Russian language abilities, to teach at a public or private institution. My Masters degree (see below) is an Education degree with the area of specialization of Mathematics. In high school I excelled in verbal and written Russian including literature. Since then I have continued to educate myself and I have a special interest in contemporary Russian culture. I have a passion for teaching others about Russia and her important history and culture.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style for Spanish is proficiency-based, culture-based and student-centered. My college students master basic Spanish vocabulary and grammar through writing grocery lists, ordering from a menu, describing how they are feeling, and even decorating skull cookies for the Day of the Dead. On a similar note, I teach children by discovering and exploring Spanish with them. Together we decorate Day of the Dead cookies, create and label picture posters, and play games in Spanish to practice vocabulary. Each activity always targets the child's strongest learning styles and their comfort zones.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a patient and empathetic tutor. I have come to realize that there is sometimes a correlation between students having problems in school, and having problems elsewhere. Sometimes they feel the need to discuss these things. I think it's important to listen, but on the other hand, not let that take up a great deal of time. I am able to redirect and focus the students' attention, and to explain things in different ways, if they don't understand the first time.
I graduated from San Diego State University, with a B.A. in Social Sciences and a Biology minor (Animal Behavior), in 1995. Previously, I had served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1982-1986. More About This Tutor...

I graduated with a Business Degree, currently involved in Master's of Teaching Mathematics program. During my college I helped tutor many students with a variety of needs, mainly math and science. This lead me to develop passion for tutoring. I believe any child or student can be helped, it is a matter of process. Tutored and taught: elementary math, science, pre-Algebra, Algebra (all levels), Calculus I, Trigonometry, Geometry, Chemistry, Physics.
Being of Russian origin, my methods of explanation may be a little different from what students are used to here. I relate and connect very easily with students and try to put any subject into practical application and explain why is it important to know. Overall in my tutoring/teaching experience, I had a lot of success with my students of various ages. Even the "hard cases" began to show results in a few sessions.
