Northland Learning Solutions specializes in one-on-one dyslexia tutoring, in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Additionally, we have discovered that our program is beneficial to anyone requiring assistance in reading and spelling. Northland Learning Solutions offers professional tutoring services to the surrounding communities. Our Orton-Gillingham based tutoring system utilizes the Barton Reading and Spelling System. Our trained tutors work personally with students for one hour, 2 to 3 times a week. We do not tutor in a group setting.
I worked for a dyslexia tutoring center, Road to Learning, located in the Chicago area that would tutor between 80 to 100 students per week. Teaching needs to adjust with each student or class, because everyone has their own flavor for learning. I tend to let the student take the lead at first, and then I try to guide them through the areas they're questioning. It's like a car on a road with a new driver: the student is driving all over the road, and I need to gently urge them into the right lane (or the correct answer).
