I have a great desire to pass the knowledge I was so fortunate to receive from my teachers and mentors, to others so that they may learn how to make better decisions in their own lives. I believe the role of a teacher (tutor) is to motivate students to want to learn. From my own experience I believe students learn the best when they are motivated to learn by seeing the value and importance of the information presented to them. Everyone does not learn the same way, so I incorporate various learning styles until the student finally understands the concept being taught, which includes real world situations, visual, tactile and auditory methods in my teaching. I studied post secondary in high school and graduated in the top ten of my class. I was on the deans list every year of my college career. I was a teachers aid at the University of Minnesota for three years in the anatomy department. I was a the lead embalmer for the University and worked for the Anatomy bequest program. I was licensed in mortuary science in 2007 and have been working as a funeral director and Retail manager for the past three years.
I believe that the purpose of tutoring is to help students help themselves, or to assist or guide them to the point at which they become an independent learner. I know that the content knowledge is an essential ingredient for a tutor; however, to be truly effective, i believe a tutor must combine content knowledge with empathy, honesty and humor. A Little Bit About Me...

When I first started college, I had no idea what to major in. I started taking creative writing and literature classes though, and found my niche in English. I enjoy writing, reading, proofreading, checking grammar and punctuation, and find myself reviewing billboards and magazines for errors. I've been able to put these skills to actual use as an instructor, tutor, and advisor for college students. I have taught Business Writing, Business Communication, and Keyboarding classes. I have also had a great deal of experience with public speaking and have played piano for more than 20 years. In the end though, it's a great joy to see a student "get it" and to help them realize their full potential.
