I have experience tutoring many subjects, but I most enjoy tutoring students in Accounting and Finance, and standardized test prep. I firmly believe in equal access to educational opportunities. To me, education is essential as it's directly correlated with an improved quality of life. As a tutor, I adapt my teaching to my students' learning styles and work hard to give them a personalized experience.I have a lot of experience as an educator. I provided peer tutoring to undergraduates in business classes, I taught French to children in Italy, and I have tutored my siblings in test preparation.
I pride myself on being clear and to the point. I not only know how to do but I know how to teach. I have mentored colleagues and taught accounting to laymen who wanted to get a better understanding of the subject. I have also tutored the children of friends in accounting and math subjects. My teaching style is very simple and I believe it is effective. I have found that going through problems does not always help kids learn. I always try to tutor the basics and establish a plan for problem solving. The children need to know how to attach a problem not how to plug numbers into equations.
While attending the University of Massachusetts at Lowell I work to help other students that were having difficulty understanding the material presented. I obtained a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in Structural Analysis. The course work gave me a very strong understanding of Mathematics, and Physics. Also, the quantity of lab reports I have written has given me an advantage in writing non-technical reports along with technical reports. I have worked as a college math privately and through other companies.

A Little Bit About Me...

While pursuing an undergraduate program in Biology, I was fortunate to join the peer mentoring program at my school. As a peer mentor, I tutored in General Chemistry 1 and 2 for two years. I made counseled and guarded my peers in my area of study I also tutored in calculus 1 for a program by the division of science called City College Academic for Professional Preparation (CCAPP). I later tutored in statistics for the premedical office at my school.
I love teaching because it provides an opportunity for both teacher and student to learn new things. I also believe that by applying appropriate teaching styles, the most difficult subject can be very easy to the students. I believe in getting students involved in their studies by making it fun. A child needs to study but must have fun whilst studying. My objective is to provide good educational approach to ensure that my students are t ... read more

I feel that I excel in putting myself in the student's shoes. By trying to understand their thought process, I can best teach by making sure the student follows the logic of the subject. I have always believed that allowing the student to reach understandings through subtle guidance by the teacher is the best process. This method allows students to retain information better and feel more comfortable with the material.
I have always enjoyed both the humanities and sciences. At Virginia Tech, I majored in Philosophy and Minored in Statistics and Business. I graduated from Worcester State College in January of 2009. My major course of study was economics. Along with economics, I took a variety of courses, including physics, and multiple US History courses. Besides economics I would say that these two subjects, along with writing and english composition are my key strengths besides my major area of study. Currently I am an assistant high school football coach and I responsible for two specific positions within the team. I tutored for Worcester State College economics majors, not only in economics, but any subject I could help them with. I plan on becoming a teacher and have taken the first of two tests in the teacher's licensure process.
I have not yet become a classroom teacher. I have already applied to summer school programs throughout the state. As a coach, I feel that it is essential to inspire students/my student ath ... read more

I believe in being a coach to the student rather than traditional teaching. While I will go over any new concepts in a teaching format, I prefer letting the students figure out solving any related problem by guiding and making suggestions, as necessary, to lead them through coming up with a solution. I will sometimes let students make mistakes so that they can later understand the mistake and as a result more likely to learn the material in question more thoroughly.

I have spent a lifetime educating myself and participating in professional development and then giving back my knowledge and skills to those that may benefit. I have found that I frequently learn as much from those that I teach as they learn from me. My History degree is not only a passion but the research and analytical skills I have learned help me present information in a way that is easy to understand and comprehend. As an Aquatic Education instructor I embraced those that were concerned about our environment and encouraged ideas to resolve issues.
Regardless of the demographics of the student population in the classroom, I have learned that it is as important to listen as it is to present information. I encourage participation in classromm subjects yet maintain control and functionality of the class so that the lesson is not lost in the discussion. It is rewarding to see the i ... read more

I believe the key to good teaching is understanding the subject from the student's perspective. As a teacher, it is easy to take for granted certain assumptions and prior knowledge that a student may lack. Each student brings a unique approach and starting point to the learning experience. The teacher's job is to find that starting point and lead the student from there to a place of deeper understanding and knowledge. If a student struggles to understand something, the teacher has probably "skipped a step" somewhere, and omitted some piece of the puzzle that the student does not yet have. When that happens, the teacher should go back to a place of mutual understanding and take smaller steps, being careful to take nothing for granted. My teaching style is especially well suited to a tutoring environment. With a single student, there is all the time I need to find and empathize with ... read more

My teaching experience is limited to having to teach various employees different parts of various accounting software if they had no prior knowledge of that package. I usually have a hands on approach to my teaching I like to get feed back from the folks that I'm trying to teach regarding how the learning process seems to be going for them as we go from step to step.

I have enjoyed caring for & teaching children no matter what the individual need may be since I was 14.I have an enthusiasm for learning, but believe in gettting to know what each child finds interesting to reach him/her in order to spark the interest of learning & instill confidence, even if the thought was that the subject was 'yucky' or 'I cannot do it.'I believe all children are capable, given the opportunity, understanding & time.I think success stems from listening to the child, being able to translate that communication no matter what form into an educaitonal tool and then make it fun in a creative way.I think that a motivated child learns more quickly & retains a greater amount of information about the subject.

During my years in high school and college, I was an honor student who excelled in all subjects. Not only am I gifted, but I am also driven to succeed. Most recently in my career, one of my greatest responsibilities was to teach/train my associates. For the past ten years, I have taught adults of varying ages and knowledge levels, both in a classroom setting and one-on-one. Many times, I provided additional training after hours in my home. Perhaps one of my greater successes was to teach a class of recent college graduates with no knowledge of the business or industry. Each member of that class became highly successful, and exceeded expectations. Because I am both excited and passionate about teaching, I am in the process of obtaining my teaching license in middle school math/science. My college coursework in Economics honed my skills in math and statistics; however, in order to ... read more

Creativity in this job is a must and I feel you need to be on the same level as your students to engage them in what you want to teach them. Not all students learn in the same fashion so I feel teaching the same facts but in different ways to target your audience is very key in education. From reading, to visual arts and verbal communication, I feel that they are all just as important as the next one and I would encompass them all into my style of teaching.
