My teaching style relies heavily on feedback from the client. I try to have a phone call with a student to learn what they are having difficulty with but also what their professor might expect from them. Then I get a good sense of their personality to understand the best way to get ideas across to them. There are often roadblocks to learning such as personal hangups or self doubt that must be addressed. Other times it is just a matter of understanding what the person does or does not get.
You will see many ads by former or current professors trying to make a buck on the side. They are terrible tutors - they spent their whole careers having students beg them for a better grade. I am currently a freshman in college who is double majoring in Computer Science and Math. I've done the occasional work of helping students with their homework. I have been a Teacher's Assistant for a teacher who taught BC Calculus and IB Math HL. Every so often I would teach lessons for teachers and help classes review for tests. Individually, students gave me positive feedback on help/tutoring.
Preferably 1 on 1. I like to work the problem out with the student. Start out with easy problems on their current lesson to help break down harder problems. I can do small groups as well, 3 max maybe 4, as long as they are all on the same topic/lesson.

If "Math" is a nightmare, brace yourself for a sweetdream.

I have tutored math very often and over the course of helping others, I've learned the British ways of solving a math problem is extremely easy while the American ways are a bit confusing for the students. I could remember a day while working at Dollar Tree HQ in the Finance Department, a math problem arises and it took my supervisor 12 minutes while I solved it in 45 seconds. We arrived at the same answer however, time is of the essence.
