I have worked with different levels of mental health and emotional maturity for several years. I have spent much of my spare time working within the community at youth centers, soup kitchens and veteran administration homes. I feel that working with many different types and levels of human functioning has enabled me to be more able to adjust my teaching and assisting styles to better serve my community. Each person learns at an individual pace. I use the Gardner system of multiple intelligences to facilitate individual learning style. I am a graduate of Northeast State Community College. I am currently attending East Tennessee State University in pursuit of a BA in English with a minor in Education. I have been working with students form ages 5 to 14 yrs. in age for 2+ years. I like to give intruction and then give the student tools and resources to help them find their answers. I am a firm believer in using real life scenarios and showing students how information is applied to real life.

I am a discussion based teacher. I prefer to engage the students higher level thinking with a questioning approach. I do not think that lecture or rote memorization are proper ways to educate a child. I believe that teachers affect a students learning not just through the subject but also through the real world examples that should be the core of all learning. Students will only reach their potential when they are challenged beyond what they feel they are capable. I like to accommodate to a child's personality and likes to help them to learn through distinct processes. When given the opportunity in the correct manner, children can learn most of what is put in front of them. By using example catered specifically to certain children, they are able to connect to the tutor as well as the subject. As a tutor, I am kind, laid-back and patient.
