My teaching style with students of all ages is to facilitate their learning as opposed to simply feeding them what I feel is the best response. Students learning is maximized when they can take ownership of and pride in their work. I am very patient. Recognizing that all students learn differently, I seek to ascertain their learning styles and then adjust my tutoring style to that learning style.

I believe teaching should be an evolving, natural thing that constantly takes into account all the strengths and weaknesses presented, so that the student can learn the best way for him or her. It helps to get to know each student a bit so that the style needed is discovered and as many barriers as possible are brought down. While working on my MS at the University of Tennessee, I taught lecture and outdoor laboratory sessions for the Ornithology course, which included about 30 students.
