Presently, I work as a teacher's assistant in special education. I earned a BA in English Literature from one of the finest private colleges in the Southeast. Maryville College encourages students to be life-long learners who seek cumulative growth through experiences. I am a published author and have organized and researched an original thesis paper. As a teacher's assistant, I work with learning disabled students in areas such as reading literacy and logical distinctions in meaning of symbols and signs in language. I have tutored children with various health disabilities such as ADD and ADHD as well as students with low spectrum autism. Education is the process of guiding children or adults in the experience of learning meaning of things. I have 7 years of teaching experience at the Florida School for the Deaf teaching struggling readers at the high school level. I received the teacher of the year recognition award during my second year of teaching due to my ability to motivate and encourage all my students to enjoy the love of reading. In the evening, I also coordinated the tutoring program for 2 years as well as tutored for 4 years. I believe that all children can learn. It is just a matter of getting his/her lightbulb to go off. I believe in a more active approach to learning and finding ways to "play" inorder to teach the skills needed to learn the concept. My goal is to make learning fun and enjoyable. Once a student sees that learning is fun, it will never stop. It becomes contagious.

My teaching style is very matter-of-fact and flexible. Some students learn by listening, others by reading, and still more by doing. It is my job to determine which students need which type of teaching. It's important to never let the student feel I am judging his abilities in a negative manner while still making sure he learns from his mistakes. When getting my Bachelor's degree, English was my chosen major. I chose the subject because I love to read and write, and excel at both of those things. In high school and college, I tutored middle and high school - aged children. I was able to find and help those kids because my parents were teachers; thus, so were their friends who needed tutors. As a professional editor and writer, I have the experience necessary to help these kids grasp one of the harder languages, English. French was my language in high school and I took Russian in college.
