My comments on tutoring Calculus II : I recently took this course, so I have a fresh perspective on the material as a student.

I do not consider myself a teacher but a helper. In my experience, the Socratic method in which I pose probing questions that unlock the student's knowledge is the strongest approach. A student's retention of the material is strongest when the student can teach it, and that's what I aim for. I break down any material the student doesn't understand into terms that are easier to comprehend. Preparedness is expected on the part of the student. I am not a substitute for independent study, and the sessions should not consist of doing homework. I am a resource best used when students have an understanding of what they do need help with.

I am very patient and understand that my purpose is to provide assistance to my students and that my student's success is a reflection of me.
As a current PhD student desiring to teach at a college level, I am motivated to teach others the valuable skills that I possess.
