I have five years of teaching experience, including teaching kindergarten students, students who were English language learners, and fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students. My focus has been in reading and language arts, and I have attended several Uncommon Schools trainings for close reading techniques and writing and vocabulary strategies. My previous background and work experience was in writing, and I enjoy teaching students about the different forms of writing, including creative writing, literary analysis, argumentative, and informative. After high school I achieved a BS from George Peabody College for teacher, however did not teach for money until many years later after I received my MS. My work in clinical psychology has been mostly with children, the severely mentally ill, and abuse cases. My last full time position was teaching high school material in a one room school to students who were wards of the state. I taught anger management for the local courts for eight years. Now I teach parenting classes for divorcing couples for the Giles County court. I also occasionally teach a seminar for attorneys on body language.
As both a teacher and a counselor I have worked to develop a teaching style that is student focused. I have always told my classes, "Learning can be fun; and if it's not, you may not be doing it right." Of course, that does not mean learning isn’t work; but part of growing up – and selecting a career – is learning that work can be enjoyable. I should mention that it is not my way to enforce memorization for the sake of it. If you understand concepts, that is much better. I always say “an example is the embodiment of a rule”. A Little Bit About Me...

I obtained a B.A. in 2004 from Lee University in Telecommunication. I feel I have substantial experience in teaching and specifically writing composition to be a great tutor. My college experience includes receiving an outstanding English student award, teaching in an extra-curricular club, and tutoring fellow students.
