My comments on tutoring French : I minored in French at my university.

I do not consider myself a teacher but a helper. In my experience, the Socratic method in which I pose probing questions that unlock the student's knowledge is the strongest approach. A student's retention of the material is strongest when the student can teach it, and that's what I aim for. I break down any material the student doesn't understand into terms that are easier to comprehend. Preparedness is expected on the part of the student. I am not a substitute for independent study, and the sessions should not consist of doing homework. I am a resource best used when students have an understanding of what they do need help with.

I studied French in High School then I spent over a year in a French speaking country where I greatly improved my ability to read, write, and speak French. I taught English classes to French speakers, which is just the opposite of what we're doing here, and spent an hour each day studying grammar and other rules.

French is one of my top subjects! Besides French being my second language, it is a language that I have always loved. My parents started teaching me French as early as I can remember, and I never distanced myself from it. I speak/write French on a daily basis to communicate with some of my friends and family members.

My teaching style varies depending on my tutees learning style. I believe people learn better when they can relate to the way you teach them, therefore I teach people based on their personal learning style.
My parents started teaching me French as early as I can remember, I fell in love with the language and ever since I was a kid I have always enjoyed speaking/writing French. During my 4 years at Benedict College, even though I was majoring in Computer Science I have helped many of my peers with French. I have tutored them and helped them understand how easy it is to learn French granted you are willing to learn. Every student that I have tutored in French during my 4 years at Benedict College has passed the class with either A or B, never a C. I enjoy teaching French and I always make sure I make the learning experience fun for my tutees.
