As a tutor with Webster University's student literacy corps, I worked with individuals, pre-K-adult, on reading, literacy, and writing skills. I held this position for two years along with a summer position tutoring Algebra and French with HEC Upward Bound, which service at-risk youth. I found both programs extremely enjoyable and found that all of my students were eager to learn and improve their skill set.
It has been my experience that each student has his/her individuals needs and that each learns differently. I have always wanted to teach Math and Science. I have volunteered tutored on and off for five years for friends and family. I have a BS in Chemistry and have worked as a Chemist for 13 years. Some students remember best what they see, some what they hear, but nearly all will best recall material that they see hear say and do something with. My teaching style is one that tries to incorporate seeing, hearing, saying, and doing and getting students to use higher order thinking skills as much as I can. More than just rote memory and recall, I want then to be able to apply acquired knowledge to solve problems or create new ideas based on their previous learning.

I graduated from Columbia University with a BA in English and political science and spent the four years following graduation working on the communications team for Mayor Michael Bloomberg in New York City. In that capacity I supervised a staff of five full time employees and a variable number of interns. That experience was helpful in terms of learning to teach and mentoring college-age and post-college individuals.
