A Little Bit About Me...

Since I have been around 15, starting with my growing nieces, it has always stood out to me how the child's brain develops. Seeing one of my nieces grasp material quicker than the other. I took up two years of Early Childhood Education in high school as a co-op class and learned a lot about the development of children. I didn't want it to stop there so I signed up for City Year. which is a nonprofit organization which focuses of students in low-income neighborhoods with a high rate of high school drop-outs and our ultimate goal is to work with children so they are on the aim line to graduate 12th grade. As a recent college graduate, I understand the high expectations and the stress that it can cause a college student, especially coming from a school where most professors expected students to teach themselves concepts. I have earned my BS in Mechanical Engineering which has enabled me to gain understanding in math and science. I have experience in tutoring students in mathematics, physics 1 and thermodynamics.
I love teaching because of the feeling of helping someone who is truly struggling in class! I believe that everyone can learn, but some teachers styles don't match up with the students learning style. I am a very patient and considerate person. I am a firm believer that many students can't learn strictly through theory and need to be walked through example problems. Walking through problems gives them a better visualization of what they are trying to solve.

My style focuses on the processes in arriving at a solution. The learning goal in mathematics is to impart understanding of the process of working toward a solution, not attaining the solution. In mathematics as many other endeavors, it is how we proceed to a goal that is important, not the goal itself. The achievement at the end is the result of making the correct choices during the journey to the end.
