I have always had the ability to effectively teach my family, peers, and other classmates. However, I recently decided to get into the field of tutoring. My first student teaching experience was in a preschool. The classroom was very play based and not very structured. I learned how to communicate with the students while they were playing and was able to help them learn through scaffolding I learned how to model positive behaviors to the children and stay away from the negative. As a Merchant Marine and Chief Steward I have taught, tutored, or mentor kids of all ages and backgrounds. My passion when teaching is to try and breakdown the subject to it's most basic level. A level that the person being taught can understand. Having work with kids from different ethnic and educational backgrounds I find this to be very affective and productive. Also, not having been a great student in high school with dyslexia, I have been able to over come these short comings and graduate from collage with honors.
