My comments on tutoring Flute : I learned to play the flute in High School. I have been playing for more than 20 years. I can read music and can teach how to read music.

My teaching philosophy starts out with essentialism which believes in a strong core curriculum and high academic standards. I believe it is important to have a strong foundation on which to build upon. After ensuring a strong foundation I tend to lean more towards progressivism. I believe students should be taught what is relevant today while becoming more independent learners, by utilizing problem solving skills and critical thinking. I teach the foundation and build upon that based upon what is relevant in a particular field today. I also include student-centered teaching strategies. I believe in order to learn a student must have base knowledge of a subject that leads into hands on assignments which require mastery of a subject. Flute is one of my top subjects! Began playing in 2002

Hello! My name is Anna. I started playing flute in 2002 in Elementary School, and thoroughly fell in love with it. By 2004 I decided to begin competing, and so I did. I continued on competing throughout the years and participated in several classes in school for band students. In middle school, I began picking up random instruments and learning them, though I never did progress. I can play other instruments, but I'm not able to teach anything other then Flute/Piccolo. As you can see, once I hit high school, most of the awards stopped. I didn't audition because of the stress of battling with grades and practicing long hours. Preparing for competitions stressed me out beyond belief, so I quickly began practicing on my own terms. I never did stop playing flute, though I did stop competing.
