I developed my passion for teaching others from a a pre-college program I was in called Upward Bound. I learned study skills, time management and other skills that helped me excel in college. After college graduation,i obtained a tutoring position with the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.I served as a mentor as well guiding them through the difficulties of high school and applying for college and financial aid. My next position was for Admission Possible. Admission Possible is a non profit organization whose main purpose is to get low income students into college. I love teaching children and being able to see them learn. It is awesome to see and hear when they finally "get it" or when they understand something that I taught them. Moreover, when a student gives you an answer to a question and uses an example of something that you taught them earlier, it really shows you how quickly they can pick things up. My teaching "style" is very open--I will have an outline and while I am presenting I will sometimes ask for examples from the students to help get us through the outline together. You can't speak AT them; you have to involve the students in what you are teaching them.
