I have been teaching English and History education for three years. I have experience on the 7th, 8th 9th and 10th grade levels. For the last three years my high school English courses have been centered on ACT prep. for the ACT/MME students take their junior year. My eighth grade curriculum focuses on strengthening testing scores, reading comprehension and writing ability (formal and creative). I also have taught Shakespeare and core minored in Shakespearean Lit while earning my English Degree. Recent Graduate Looking To Help

For most students, essays are their number one issue. After they have told me their concerns, I like to read over the paper myself and any correct grammar mistakes I find along the way. I also sometimes write in comments in the margin to refer back to. If I have an issue or am confused about a certain session, I stop and ask the student. I also often read the sentence(s) aloud so the student can hear the what is wrong. If he or she still does not see an issue, I explain my concerns and we work together until we are both happy. After I’m done reading, I express any more concerns I have and once again work with the student until we are both happy. I also help with work cited pages. Most of my experience is with MLA style, but I have also worked with APA and Chicago. I also reference any websites that I think may be helpful. A Little Bit About Me...

At our first session, I ask that each student complete a short quiz to determine their learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc). Every child learns differently and I believe that discovering what works best for each student is the first step towards success. Once we figure out what his/her learning style is, I cater to this. If they learn best by reading, I'll prepare worksheets based on what they're learning; if they're hands-on learners, I'll make an activity.
My experience with tutoring began in high school, when I started assisting elementary students with homework through one of my clubs. Throughout the two years I was involved, I regularly helped 6 students, along with 6 students that I met with irregularly.
