Latin is one of my top subjects! I have my bachelor's degree in Latin, and my education minor meant I was a student teacher of this subject for an entire semester.

I have five years' experience as a writing tutor at my university, during which I wrote and presented papers at multiple regional conferences for university writing tutors. I rose to become one of the most respected and requested tutors out of my peers. I many credit hours of pedagogy and teaching methodology classes, both for Teaching ESL and Latin, and a semester of student teaching under my belt.
I employ the Socratic method of asking lots and lots of questions. I see a tutorial as not a time for a student to soak up information, but to engage the mind and use the tools he has already been given. Of course, if a student truly doesn't know something crucial, I will tell him. I always try to make my instruction at least a little bit funny, and to connect the material to the student's interests, because these factors are known to enhance learning.

My comments on tutoring Latin : Took two years of it in high school and have a general knowledge on vocabulary, basic sentence structure and introductory translation

I love mathematics, I am not going to deny it. I find it to be one of the most thrilling subjects out there. I can understand why so many people dislike it. My job will be not to make you like it but to help you appreciate it and not take it for granted. I am a very patient person with many helpful tips, books and mnemonics to help others to understand. I want to show people that math geeks are people to who want to see the best in everyone, numerically.
I completed and earned my Bachelor of Science degree cum laude in Mathematics from Marietta College in May 2012. I am currently attending John Carroll University to pursue my Masters degree. I have taken upper level math courses all my life and I have helped out/participated with the college's mathematics department on occasion ... read more

I have a variety of experience. Most of my tutoring experience is with older students, aged 15 or older. However, I feel that I could work with younger kids as well. I love learning, and I get excited when a student fully grasps the material. I try and reinforce a teachers method of teaching. However, if repetition is not the issue, than I try and explain topics in different ways with lots of examples.I believe a tutor can really be a great supplement to the classroom teacher.

I believe the key to learning is to break complex concepts down into manageable sizes. The goal of tutoring is to relate new or difficult material to simple ideas that are already familiar to the student. Above all else, it is important to communicate with the student to understand where the breakdown in understanding is and then develop an approach that aids in comprehension.
I earned three degrees in five years, all in quantitative disciplines. The range of material covered by those degrees includes mathematics and statistics, economics, and some computer programming. Beyond my education background, I have five years of experience tutoring. In high school, I tutored children in reading and writing and other high school students in mathematics and Latin. In college, I have one additional year of experience tutoring introductory calculus.

I believe that each child learn differently, and as such, I have found the best way to teach is to cater to each child's individual learning style. In working one-on-one with students, I feel as though it is crucial to build a trusting relationship in which the child feels comfortable stating whether or not the teaching style I am using is working for them. Being only 22 years old, I feel as though I have an advantage, as I am close enough in age to the students that they are able to almost see me as a peer, but I'm also old enough for them to respect me as an adult.

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching, or the best teachers, are required to have a certain undertanding that not just anyone has. I think teaching is a decision that demands patience, excitement, encouragement, care, and the love of making the best students possible. Constructivist approaches to learning and inquiry based teaching, appreciating multiple intelligences, and methods of learning, are all part of my approach to teaching. Students have interests that vary and their interests may very well round out their desire to learn. I strive to make sure to it that my students take away something to learn every time that I see them.
As a driven student & business owner, I've had ownership stakes in different businesses. Educationally, I have had a natural love for mathematics (BS) & life sciences (short of minors in chemistry, physics, and biology). As my involvement in business increased while still in s ... read more

The mastery of academic subjects should be a very personally meaningful experience. To educate is to deeply enrich. No teacher should embark on the journey of education with out truly wishing to equip his or her students with the tools they need for the present and future. As a teacher, I have the opportunity to facilitate social and academic growth that allows students to form meaningful connections between the subjects and their personal experiences. The standards I expect my students to achieve are set by the students' individual needs. The theories of developmental psychology direct my approach to helping students reach their full potential. I guide the improvement of their skills by encouraging them to build and refine their habits gradually. I also enhance their understanding of subject matter through scaffolding techniques that develop their schemas. My methods help students under ... read more

As a student myself I know exactly what I want and expect out of a teacher. Learning is exciting for me, and it is important to me that I convey the 'fun' aspects of learning to my students. I am believe in conforming the way I teach to match the student's learning abilities. It is my job to make sure the student walks away fully understanding the information as opposed to acting like they understand it.
As a young student I was very motivated to attend medical school at a young age. I received a bachelor degree, BS, in biology with minors in both psychology and chemistry. After graduating with my undergraduate degree early, I unexpectedly found a passion for teaching. Currently, I am working towards my masters degree, MS, in biology. Along with this I have been teaching introductory science labs for the university. I also, enjoy tutoring, one-on-one, students ranging from 2 ... read more
