I have taught students in grades K through 12, but I find that teaching elementary students to be the most rewarding. Although I have taught students of all ages levels, my primary experience has been teaching kindergarten and working as a reading specialist with students in grades two and three. I have worked with many groups of children from grades k-12. My main focus is working with elementary students. Most of my experience is working with grades k-6. My number one field is math. I'm more concerned in helping students with math because this is usually the field were most students are having trouble. I've been helping many children with their math including friends and family members. At the moment I'm working with students from grades k-2 and helping them understand the basics of math. Educator for 17+ years seeking to help with our tomorrow!

I'll be honest. My "students" from the past have told me that during the time when I was actually sitting down and tutoring/working with them, they didn't even notice that they were actually doing the work. What I do when I try to make the "students" learn is to make them see what the books are trying to say to them through what we see through our eyes, in our world, every day. For example, if the book says: 7 - x = 4, I would be telling the child/adult, "Imagine if you had 7 dollars in your hand." I would then ask them, "How many do I need to take away (subtract) for you to have 4 dollars?" When working with the lower kids, I even use the actual objects and lay them on tables in front of me and show to them so they don't have to use their imagination to figure it out. Or if the page has picture on it, just cross them out if subtracting, or draw more if adding.

Elementary Reading is one of my top subjects! Helping children love reading and opening their imaginations.

Repetitive reading that helps recognition and pronunciation, sounding out and following along with single reading. getting the group excited about the material we use by offering props. Encouraging group participation and support.And of course stickers and promotion. My idea is to have 5 to 10 children of close to the same age reading and practicing together, asking questions about the subject and imaging themselves in the stories they are reading.
