I offer 16 years of English writing instructional experience. I have taught a diverse range of students, both in terms of abilities and cultural backgrounds. Instructional areas include English as a second language, developmental concerns, creative writing and poetry (I am a published poet), professional and technical writing. Not every method works for every child; with one exception, patience. I demonstrate and exemplify patience. If a child feels as though they are in an atmosphere where they are safe, free of ridicule and bias, then they are willing to perform. This process can be a give take scenario however. So, some flexibility is required as well, but eventually the student will become more comfortable with themselves and confident in what they are capable of. With all of my experience and education, I have had the opportunity to work with all facets of children; from those who require a great deal of help, to those who might just need a little more challenge then what their work was providing them. Having worked with large and diverse groups of children I have assisted in English, math, science, and social studies from grade school to high school.
