Experienced. Effective. The logical choice.

As a tutor of student athletes at Indiana University, I tutored students from all walks of life. I began by tutoring Biology and Spanish but the need for tutors in English, Writing, Chemistry and Statistics soon arose and I stepped up to fill those positions. Using previous knowledge from AP classes in high school, as well as recent knowledge gained from my classes, I was able to successfully convey new information in easy to understand and applicable terms to these students. This past year I tutored high school math, English and Genetics.
I have always enjoyed teaching others sharing my love of learning. I find it most effective to use a variety of methods to successfully teach information. A Little Bit About Me...

Each time I have taught a different age-level I have sought to accommodate myself to the learning style of that particular level, whether psychokinetic for kindergarten and preschool, audio-visual for lower elementary, or verbal-phonemic for upper-level students and adults. It was in the teaching of adults that I encountered my most challenging situations, and even today the pedagogy is not nearly as simple as would appear at face-value. Reference to Ken Pike's tomes on the fundamentals of tagmemics, James Stanfield's affective pointers for students of various emotional statuses, and even the philosophy of Noam Chomsky on English deep structure, were all consulted early and often and at one time or another throughout my career.

Tutoring the children over the last two years has been the most rewarding work for me. When a middle school child actually gets up, goes and gets a dictionary, and looks up the meaning, pronunciation, and spelling of a word, without having direction from me, it makes my heart sing. I have been engaged in tutoring since college; started a tutoring program for inner city kids in Atlanta, GA while in College. I have a B.S. degree in Biology and therefore have a lot of experience in the sciences and mathematics. A Little Bit About Me...

I began working with children who were diagnosed with autism my first year of college (I did this for 7 years). I felt a sense of accomplishment as I watched them grow as people. I realized through these experiences that I wanted to help people learn and become accomplished. Later, I decided to student teach in graduate school. I taught three different writing courses over three years, including this past year as a part-time instructor. While I enjoyed my time teaching in a college classroom, I found myself making the most headway during conference time. In addition, I also worked as a writing tutor at MU's writing center. I felt like I accomplished more working with students in this way instead of standing by a chalkboard.
