A Little Bit About Me...

Education is the central focus of my everyday life. I have obtained a BS in Management-Health Care/HR and 5 Associate degrees in Business Administration, Administrative Office Technology, Medical Office Technology, Legal Secretary, and College Transfer. I have been homeschooling my son since 2006 and mentoring students through a local church for just as long. In addition, I tutored in 1990-1991 and 1994-1997 while in college to earn extra money. I have assisted students with Mathematics, English, Science, Social Studies, and Mental Health issues. I have published my own poetry and have written a novel which I will publish soon. I began 'teaching' as the head wakeboarding instructor at Coble Ski School in Lillington, NC, when I was a junior in high school. Shortly thereafter I took a position working at a beach resort in Pensacola, FL, where I spent an entire summer instructing surfing, kayaking and sailing. At Duke I tutored during each of my four years, either biweekly at a local Durham elementary school or at the Emily K Family Life Center. It is there where I tutored once weekly as a senior, up until I graduated in May. I have tutored in all subjects and all ages up through 22.

As a TA, I led 20 students in section meetings, focusing on writing and communication strategies. Additionally, I tutored student athletes at Duke University for one year. I tutored students in numerous subject areas, including statistics, public policy, economics, basic writing, and political science. A Little Bit About Me...

Since I am an engineering student, I have always been interested and excelled in math and science, so I have tutored many kids in all areas of science and mathematics. I have also tutored in Spanish and French. Last year, I worked with a young man who had dyslexia. I have helped kids of all ages, whether at the elementary, high school, or collegiate level.
I am a very patient person, a trait which I believe is very beneficial for a tutor to possess. I am always patient when teaching, and in doing so have succeeded in getting my point across. I like to pass on small tricks and acronyms that I have came up with for many things, some of which I have still retained to this day for my own personal use, not just for school work.
