My comments on tutoring Biology : I took both Honors Biology in ninth grade and AP Biology in twelfth grade. I received an A in both courses for my hard work and was in the top of my class both years. I mastered the basics from Honors in AP biology. One emphasis my teacher had was to be able to explain the concepts both in writing and verbally so I have become a very effective tutor in this subject area.

Teaching new concepts, practice applying the new material, review, and more practice of the material to solidify the concepts.
I have helped my classmates and have had one official student as of this summer. However, I have learned how to explain concepts so that students dont just memorize, they will gain a thought process and applicable knowledge that will enable them to solve even the most complex problems. Having this mentality of preparation and success will being them to reach their goals.

Because I enjoy and see the wonder in science and I like to show that to students. If they see a reason to want the knowledge, and see how it can expand their horizons, then they will be more open to learning. A common problem with individuals needing tutoring is that they sometimes do not think they have the "smarts" to learn the subject. My first objective is to show them they have the "stuff" to get it! Then I show them how it can be fun. This needs to be balanced with the practical need to get passing grades and complete the course work. I understand first hand that not everyone learns the same way. I was labeled as “not too bright” as a child. The issue wasn’t my intelligence, it was my learning style.
