I have always been a very direct teacher. What I mean by that is I am very clear on what my goals are in a classroom from the very first day I begin. I let all of the students know what my expectations are, and what dissapoints me. I know that each child is different. I have always been willing to take the time to support those students who need extra attention, whether it be before or after school. Tutoring should be a tool used to complement traditional education. When tutoring there is little help in providing information to the student the same way that the teacher presents it. Tutors may also fall into the trap of simply giving the student the answers. For these reasons I prefer an holistic approach to tutoring. Every student is different and they all have different ways of understanding the material. As I am tutoring I keep in mind that I am also learning, keeping an open mind about the way a students is learning helps me to determine the best method of teaching the subject at hand.
