I taught 5 years of high school level science(chemistry, physics, biology, physical science), 3 years at university level, 1 year of chemistry at community college level. . During 5 years of teaching at the high school level, I worked with students rather than just lecturing to them. I developed a student centered understanding of what helps students learn. Although I have only been teaching in a classroom setting for the last two semesters, I have spent a great deal of time teaching friends and fellow students over the years. My recent personal experiences have helped me to develop a heightened sense of compassion and an appreciation for teaching. When I volunteered to teach Mathematics and Business Studies (Commerce, Accounting and Economics) in the summer of 2008 in St. Patrick High School in Kenya, I learned to appreciate the teacher’s experience.
