As stated above I enjoy working with children of all ages, I have made a difference in their lives as well as them making a difference in my life. I believe in the power of positive teaching. I think that most students live up to or down to your expectations. If you expect them to do well, they frequently do. Sometimes all that is needed is for teachers and other persons whose opinions matter to exhibit faith in the student's ability. But it is also often necessary to help them identify what doesn't work and find new approaches that will. Writing is a skill that is crucial to academic success in college; students must excel in writing to do well in an academic environment. Writing is also a useful skill when it comes to thinking and to organizing one's thoughts. I am most comfortable with tutoring students who are preparing for college.

For 9 of my 31 years in education, I was a classroom teacher. For 22 of those years, I was a reading teacher and instructional resource teacher. These positions required me to test students who were new to the district, do turnkey workshops for the faculty of the school in which I worked and also plan and devise curriculum suggestions with the administration of the school district. A Little Bit About Me...

A wise man once said; to learn, read; to know, write. But to master, teach. Teach is one of those nifty reflexive verbs where the teacher and pupil are interchangeable. If both are patient, resourceful, imaginative and caring the learning becomes less process and more flow. This is always my goal in teaching: creating a positive and flexible environment for all the principles involved. And of course, frequently there must be laughter.
I graduated from St. Lawrence University, a liberal arts foundation of learning that has served me judiciously on the metaphorical road of life. For the past several years I have applied my interest for the ocean environment, marine mammals and teaching to volunteer for education outreach in schools and the local communities in coastal Delaware.

After graduating from college, I worked in a Top Secret position in Washington, D.C. I left that position to pursue teaching, and earned a Masters from Boston University. I taught high school classes for several years, and also worked in IT as a trainer and troubleshooter. I was asked to direct a community college basic skills program, and did so for 7 years, rising to a Dean's level. I have more recently taught and consulted for a private primary school. I have recently moved to Delaware after a long time out West.
