A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught for 13 years in the subjects of Math and Special Education. I have taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Pre-Algebra, Basic Math, and Special Education math. I have worked with a variety of students including learning disabilities, at-risk, struggling in math, ADHD, Autistic, Hearing Impaired, and many others. In 2007 I had the wonderful opportunity of being one of two teachers at the Ann Arbor Academy's lower school for students with learning disabilities. I have worked as a Teacher's Assistant for three years where I did extensive tutoring with one student over the course of the year. I substitute taught for two years where I learned a great deal about schools, particularly elementary schools and their various curriculum and expectations for grade levels. As well, I was a full time tutor and mentor for students at Pine Ridge Academy for a year while I lived in Burlington. I also teach the second grade religious school class at my temple. I am also a substitute teacher for a day school. I am currently in graduate school at Eastern Michigan University where I am pursuing a credential in k-12, emotional impairment and learning disabilities.

As a teacher for the Washtenaw Intermediate School District, I had the privilege of working with students, age 3 to 21, who had significant cognitive impairments, and occasionally other disabilities such as autism and physically impairments. I retired in June after 32 years. My experience with students involved instruction in all areas of development, including functional academics, communication, social, community, employment, and daily living skills.
I found each day of working with my students both challenging and rewarding. I do not believe in a "one size fits all" approach to education; rather I feel that programs should be developed/adapted to meet the needs of each individual.
