After all these years, I still love teaching children! Every child has the potential to learn. However, it is the duty of the teacher to discover the child's maximum potential. After learning various teaching and learning styles at Indiana State University, I feel it is important to find each child’s unique learning style. I have two years of tutoring experience in college chemistry with the University Learning Center at Penn State. I tutored over twenty students in college chemistry. I am currently tutoring and mentoring a student in High School algerbra and chemistry for free.
I believe in problem-based tutoring for algebra, and construct problems based on the textbook problems whenever possible. I let the student try the problem first, watching closely for any mistakes, and then teach the rules as necessary, and summarize mistakes after each set of problems. However, I can also teach all the rules beforehand if a student has been absent from class. For chemistry, I reviewed class notes with students and then explained the fundamentals whenever there was a question, and then did practice problems with the students.

My teaching style is based on principles of respect, creativity, and growth. I start by establishing a personal connection to the student. Without their buy-in, anything you try to teach will be lost. Once I understand what motivates the student and what they feel successful at, I can begin to design a program that will meet their needs and allow them to feel success.
