A Little Bit About Me...

Although I had a family and worked full time I decided to go back to school and get my advanced degree from Johns Hopkins University. It was a great school and I felt a wonderful sense of accomplishment by obtaining my degree. While obtaining a BA degree from Johns Hopkins University, I was inducted into the honor society Alpha Sigma Lambda, and president from 2000-2002. During that time I tutored adults with problems in basic math skills, reading and writing. Although I did not obtain a teaching certificate - I began my master's degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University in Adult Learning. I moved out of the area before I could finish the degree. In 2004 I graduated from Smith College with a double major in American Studies and Art History. While Smith is founded in the liberal arts, I chose to take courses across all disciplines in order to receive Latin Honors. Additionally I have a MA in Media Studies from the New School University. In my experience with teaching, I find that the best way to connect and convey the information is to provide aural, visual and experiential exposure to the material. Everyone does not learn at the same pace or through the same exposure to material. As a supervisor and trainer in the military, it was my responsibility to train the new individuals that came into the job. There was a lot of studying material that I constantly had to sit down and go over with them. We made flashcards, took notes, made up quizzes, did verbal question and answers, etc. I actually used to tutor math in High School when I was in an advanced Calculus class and have helped many friends with their college math. As a grad student, I am writing lots of essays which has really helped me with my English skills. I have a lot of academic experience that I would love to utilize while tutoring.
I have taught a few weapons classes and use of force classes as a security forces member in the Air Force. However, I have never taught classes on a regular basis.

These skills were applied to research papers (30 + pages) and essays (4-10 pages). Additionally, review of class notes during the semester is a must.
