Equipping, Movtivating & Stimulating Minds!

I help others become their best selves. I enjoy teaching and tutoring youth and adults. Over the years, I have had opportunities to not only mentor and tutor youth, but to teach and tutor adults, as well. I have experience teaching and tutoring the following subjects: (1) Language Arts/Reading; (2) Language Arts/Writing; (3) Social Studies; (4) Basic Math (Whole Numbers, Fractions, Decimals, Percents and Pre-Algebra); (5) Creative Writing; and (6) Environmental Education. I have experience helping adult learners pass the GED Exam.
When teaching, I take the time to learn my students' personalities and strengths. Then, I tailor a strength-based approach to teaching my students new concepts and ideas. I usually incorporate a mixture of traditional and non-traditional teaching techniques in my lesson plans. I provide structured opportunities and supports for my students to apply w ... read more

Latin is one of my top subjects! I have an MAT degree and have taught Latin I, II, and III for 25 years. I will gladly work with the Cambridge or Ecce Romani textbook series or with my own materials which incorporate the best of both of these. The goal of my instruction is reading knowledge of Latin as opposed to the memorization of a grammar that does not apply to English. The stories I use to teach reading classical Latin center around the everyday lives of Roman families and their slaves, not military and political events. This is the vocabulary of everyday Roman life that has passed its roots into English, and so this is the Latin that should be learned in order to enhance one's English vocabulary. Additionally, the everyday lives of the Romans were far more strange and interesting than anything that occurred on their battlefields or on the floor of their Senate. The emphases of this course are adventure and wonder.

No, absolutely no pressure at any time. Patience, patience, patience. And there can't be too much encouragement. I aim to foster a love of learning and a genuine interest in the subject matter. It really should be fun, and if it's not, I wouldn't be doing my job.
12 years of one-on one tutoring Latin and German, 5 years of teaching high school German (I have also lived and worked in Germany), and 18 years as a Latin teacher. While I have taught a wide range of subjects and ages, German and Latin are my current preferred subject areas. I have tutored, or classroom taught, language students from ages nine through adult, including married couples, and currently teach a German four hours per week teens' class.

In my current position I am creative, organized, and nurturing. I am a team player and regularly coordinate lessons with faculty in other departments at my grade level. I make class fun and meaningful for my students. I also created a workbook for my students in an effort to revive Latin in the classroom. This book has revolutionized the curriculum and has captured their interest remarkably.
As a 2006 graduate of the University of Maryland, I have both student teaching and full-time teaching experience at the University and 8th grade level. I have almost 10 years of experience of teaching students for the SAT,GRE, and specific subjects, combined. It started during my freshman year (1999) at Wheaton College (Wheaton, IL). I tutored students through college in Biology, Chemistry and the SAT. Out of this experience, I instructed students for multiple semesters in a Biology Lab course. After I graduated from Wheaton (2003), I entered a doctoral (Ph.D.) program at Johns Hopkins Medical School to study Molecular Biology. During my time in Baltimore, I have tutored a wide range of students for the SAT with a company called StudySmart, and have also tutored students privately for the GRE at Loyola, Johns Hopkins and Goucher College. Having this experience of teaching has prepared me for a company like Advanced Learners, which is looking for committed, qualified, and experienced instructors. Being in a competitive academic en ... read more

Because of my experience in teaching my own children, I have discovered that no child is too young to learn. Often people will not consider an infant or toddler a "functioning human being" until the child can speak. This is so inaccurate! I taught one of my daughters to read at age four. My teaching style is to engage the student on a personal level through cheerful conversation and sharing of interests, then to assess learning styles, strengths, and challenges. Children perform well when expectations are complimentary to them, and when they are given the tools and nurture to accomplish their dreams.
I graduated from high school as number eleven in rank out of 248. I often assisted other students in both high school and college. Later, as a homeschooling mother of four, I taught all of my children all subjects through the eighth grade level. I just returned from the island of Saipa ... read more
