A Little Bit About Me...

I have throughout my entire grade school career been both a tutor and a mentor. As young as in nine years old in fourth grade I was selected to tutor kindergarten children in mathematics. As I grew older, I continually tutored my peers in a multitude of subjects, math being the prominent and my best subject. In my junior year of high school, I was personally selected to mentor and tutor at risk middle school aged children at the partnered junior high. The program I was in was specifically for high school seniors who applied and made it, when one applicant dropped out, I was their first choice as a replacement because of my excellent grades, behavioral record and proven responsibility. Seeing the look and smile on the face of a student that finally grasps a concept, or realizes they have just read on their own for the first time, OH What a Feeling!!! I take each child as their own individual knowing they have their own needs in learning a subject. I teach in several different ways as to ensure the child grasps what they need. I see children today as my future for tomorrow, so helping them and making a difference in their lives will make a difference in mine. I have not forgotten any individual I have helped to this day.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have earned both an AS in Science and Mathematics as well as completed all requirements for my BA in business administration with a concentration in accounting. I have volunteered at an elementary school tutoring while I was in high school. I have also tutored individuals in college level material on a private basis for compensation. My primary strength is mathematics although I am quite skilled in English as well.
I have always possessed a love of helping others to learn. It brings me great joy to witness when an individual grasps a concept which they have been having difficulty with. I tend to use a demonstrator style of teaching by first working through a problem slowly while asking the student questions to ensure that they understand what I am doing. Then I help them work through similar problems while providing help until they fully grasp a concept.

I have been one of the tutors on the Adult Learning Center staff at the Johnson County Public Library in Franklin, Indiana since 1998, and my tutoring work has mostly been concentrated in teaching English for the past eleven years. I also spent approximately three years (2002-2005) tutoring boys at the Indiana Juvenile Correctional Facility (Indiana Boy’s School), covering mostly English, math and GED preparation. My education focused heavily on English and math, having taken the most advanced courses in each discipline.
