I spent a year in Spain teaching English to elementary school students through games and interactive methods. I tutored Auburn students during my time there, and have worked with kids of all ages since I was 12. I am fluent in Spanish and highly proficient in French. I think differentiated instruction is the best way to teach. This essentially means changing up the instruction in an effort to allow all students to learn. Because students have different learning styles, teachers should try to teach the material in new, different, and creative ways. Teachers should consider the way that the particular child learns best (ex. auditory, visual, performing, ect.)as well as brain hemisphere dominance. Young children learn best through things that have meaning to them. For example, I once tutored a child that had difficulty learning his multiplication tables, but was an avid NASCAR fan. I taught him the sums of multiplication problems by using the numbers on the drivers cars. He learned that the sum of 6x4, and 4x6 was equal to Jeff Gordon's number, which was 24. We did that with every car in NASCAR and people were amazed at how quickly he learned his multiplication tables. Multiplication tables became a breeze to him.
