My comments on tutoring English ESOL : I have a Bachelor of Arts Degree in German from the University of Toledo. A large component of my education centered around the English language and teaching a language to prospective students. My last semester included a teaching component, in which I gained valuable experience working with students.

English ESOL is one of my top subjects! I completed a Teaching English as a Second Language certification program at my university, which incorporated a month-long practicum in Dresden, Germany, in which I observed classes at local schools and even taught some of my own.

I employ the Socratic method of asking lots and lots of questions. I see a tutorial as not a time for a student to soak up information, but to engage the mind and use the tools he has already been given. Of course, if a student truly doesn't know something crucial, I will tell him. I always try to make my instruction at least a little bit funny, and to connect the material to the student's interests, because these factors are known to enhance learning.
I have five years' experience as a writing tutor at my university, during which I wrote and presented papers at multiple regional conferences for university writing tutors. I rose to become one of the most respected and requested tutors out of my peers. I'm a visual learner, so my teaching style is the same, but I can adapt. I'm a big fan of the "See One, Do One, Teach One" approach. So in group settings I will teach a concept, give a quiz on the concept, and then have the students teach the concept back to the group.
