My comments on tutoring Economics : Have had limited experience teaching.

My method of tutoring is to work with students where they are and add to their skills, to accomplish the final outcome, preferably an "A" or "B." Some students are visual learners and some are informational learners, or some students combine the two. The potential I see in students is what I try to bring out and have them realize they are capable of going a step further, to reach their goal. The importance of education and the students' continuance of same cannot be stressed enough.
I started out tutoring elementary students in basic math and English grammar while I attended college part time in the 1980's. I continued tutoring young students and adults in the 1990's, tutoring Basic Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra, Basic Geometry, English Composition, Speech, Study Skills and the Sciences. In addition, tips were given to enhance test-taking skills in hard-to-Ace subjects ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe in making learning fun and relevant for my students. Beginning by learning about the student's baseline comprehension of the subject matter, I then determine the steps which are needed to motivate the student toward the final goal.
My professional background is in marketing, admissions/career services in higher education, and theology. I have taught undergraduate level theology for over two years at a local seminary and am currently working on my doctoral dissertation in Catholic studies. Evaluations from my students have indicated that I am able to break down complex ideas into manageable concepts. I am also very comfortable with international students.

Economics is one of my top subjects! Bachelor's degree in Economics from Bowling Green State University Master's degree in Economics with a specialization in Community and Economic Development at Illinois State University One year's experience as an Economics tutor at BGSU

As a Peace Corps volunteer, I learned to adapt my style to the needs of the student, however I like to allow the student to drive the learning activity as much as possible. I also try to incorporate more concrete experiences into the lesson plan as much as possible, combining theory with practice.
I graduated from Bowling Green State University, primarily having studied Economics, French and Spanish. During this time, I studied abroad in Tours, France, and Xalapa, Mexico. I went on to get a Master's Degree in Applied Economics with a specialization in Community and Economic Development and then volunteered with Peace Corps in Costa Rica where I worked with microfinance institutions, helping them to improve the administration of their businesses.

My teaching style is very unique because I tend to simplify the understanding process of mathematical analysis. I feel that I can teach anyone from 1st grade up to the college level. But I never do the problems for the student. Instead, I guide them through the problem so the student will learn first hand how to solve calculations step by step.
While I was going to school I became a student tutor in the areas of calculus, physics and chemistry. Most were just help with the basic calculations and the understanding of simple fundamentals.

My passion is in watching others to succeed, and I am willing to change my own methods to make that happen. Thus, my tutoring style depends almost entirely on the student as I have found that the most common reason a tutor is needed is that the student's learning style does not match with the teacher's teaching style. I can tutor through examples, visually drawing concepts, talking, describing the reasons behind a concept, and most importantly, I can relate almost every subject to daily life.
I began officially tutoring four years ago, starting up a private tutoring business. Through it, I have taught ages 5 through 55 in nearly all subjects, including mathematics, science, physics, ACT, and English. I also have tutored publicly at Oakland University for one year, where I earned my tutoring certification (level 1).

Many people have different teaching skills and techniques. I do not believe any technique to educate a child is better than any other technique. Each child learns differently. Understanding the fact that children learn differently is crucial. The teacher must be able to adapt to the child's learning style. I believe I have the ability to use an array of teaching styles to help children. I would enjoy the opportunity to help children learn.
As a student at the University of Detroit Mercy, I worked as a tutor for two years. I helped other students struggling in mathematics and biology classes. Also, my senior year in college I worked as a Teaching Assistant for a Microbiolgy lab. In addition, I did student teaching for a Catholic Middle School.

I have privately tutored students that recently arrived from Japan in English with a focus on conversation to enable them to quickly feel comfortable in a new country. As they attained conversation skills I changed my focus to education based teaching with a focus on understanding the classroom teacher and being able to participate in the classroom discussion.
