I believe in personal interaction with students – making them write, making them read – going over every detail, looking at the issues (grammar, punctuation, syntax, coherent structure (logic, unity, transitions, parallelism,)) and then re-writing and re-reading. The key to doing well in English is understanding basic structure and making it become second nature when writing. Through personal interaction, the process can be simplified by working hands on with each sentence and paragraph. A student learns best when he/she actually reads and writes and has someone to work with on the structure – through a workshop type approach – writing and re-writing. As a graduate of a small junior college I believe one on one teaching gives students the advantage over a large group because the child can receive the necessary attention for learning skills in reading, writing and math. Many children learn differently some are visual learners,some are audio etc. I have been instructed through various techniques in reading with chilldren that will help them achieve a higher reading level of success. I am a hands on person where math is concerned allowing the child to use mannipulatives. Taking time to explain until they understand. In reading we can do shared reading and other techniques.
