As I continued my college career, I had three semesters where I taught grades 7-12. I received my BS in Education in December of 2007 and began teaching high school English at the sophomore level at a local high school. I have always had a knack for the sciences and left the Midwest to follow my love of Marine Biology. While in school, I revisted my interest in the arts (painting, piano, and animation). It was then I realized I was passionate about so many topics and didn't want to limit myself to one thing! During my junior and senior year in college, I TA’ed a finance class called options pricing for two semesters. Options pricing was a difficult subject. I worked very hard to receive an A- for the course, which turned out to be my favor. I had insight to the intellectual hurdles other students had to overcome to master the material. So, teaching them came very naturally. In addition, I abandoned the lecture format for a very interactive teaching format. Working at the Nashville Transition Center, essentially a half-way house for children aged 12-18 with criminal and/or troubled backgrounds, my senior year of college changed my outlook on tutoring tremendously because it opened my eyes to the challenges many face. Having been born with Muscular Dystrophy, I'm certainly no stranger to challenges, however I had never seen individuals who were never really given a fair shot to succeed in my eyes.
