A Little Bit About Me...

I search for the light bulb that hasn't yet gone off in my students. Rote memorization by my students just to get a grade doesn't satisfy me, although that happens with some. I thoroughly enjoy the intellectual challenge of trying to stimulate my students and interest them in the learning process. I probe; I question; I challenge; I confront. If the student doesn't "get it", then my first assumption is that I'm not doing something right, and I need to try again. I may fail, but not for lack of trying or interest!
I have extensive experience in all areas of corporate accounting and financial and cost analysis as a management consultant and line manager. I stumbled upon the joy of teaching as I helped others learn to dive recreationally in my early 20’s. When I began my real estate career, I worked primarily with first time home buyers, whom I educated constantly. With the housing market collapse my desire to instruct in this manner grew as I segued into the insurance industry, and was given an opportunity to open a branch office and personally train over 50 agents in a one on one capacity over the course of two years. I still currently educate a class of insurance agents every few weeks on the complexity of products available to individuals in the market, and how to sell them, while sharing a few life lessons along the way. After receiving my Ed.D in Curriculum and Leadership, I decided to stay in the classroom. I currently instruct 4th and 5th grade students in Social Studies, Science and Math. I have taught Math to elementary students for the past 10 years. I believe that every student can learn, however each student is unique in that they learn differently. Some times finding that unique method is a challedge. If you like teaching as I do, that challedge is not hard. The joy is in watching the child comprehend or understand. The light does go off.
My teaching style is compatable with the child's learning style. If they need visual instruction then it is visual.
