Versatile Hands-on Tutor for all Age ranges

I prefer hands on teaching, but I like to remain flexible to the individuals learning style. Depending on the topics covered, we read, write, and do hands-on activities to keep the brain stimulated. Sometimes if applicable, and with parental consent, we would do art projects and maybe watch an educational film (that the parent has approved of course). For sciences and social studies I really like the idea of field trips, but everything will be permitted by the parental figures first. These field trips usually include going to parks and observing natural habitats, or even visiting the local museums. We can usually negotiate a small group trip which makes the costs slim to none to have these extra curricular activities.

I am a registered Professional Civil Engineer and have worked managing construction projects around the world. I begin a lesson by asking a student what he or she knows about the topic. If they have any familiarity with the topic I ask about it and confirm or correct their preconceptions. If the subject lends itself to a real-world example or demonstration, I would offer this for thought. Finally I teach the core concept, connecting it to other concepts already understood by the student. There is usually more than one way to teach a concept. I take into account the learning style of the student. Written or diagrammatic methods might be more effective than verbal explanations. Pnemonics can be useful, but only if the underlying concepts are first taught.
